An English teacher of 19 years, I've had the privilege of teaching all learners and levels - from basic reading courses to AP Capstone. Currently, I teach AP Seminar, AP Research, and AP Literature at a fabulous high school in Georgia. I also help train teachers all over Georgia as they embark on their AP Capstone journeys. Additionally, I have had the honor of serving students and teachers at the AP Seminar reading for six years and in a leadership capacity for the past four. I teach an online course twice a year for my district where I provide AP teachers with strategies to teach gifted learners. Additionally, I serve as instructor for our district's New Teacher Academy, where I have the privilege of mentoring new ELA teachers.
My teaching style involves hand-on, self-directed learning. I coach students on skills and lay the groundwork for them to create meaningful learning experiences. I am equally part facilitator of learning, guide, mentor, and cheerleader for my students. I believe the best learning happens collaboratively and in authentic settings and work every day to create those settings for my students.
Most recently in 2019, I was honored to be the Teacher of the Year at my high school and then REALLY honored to be named my district's High School Teacher of the Year! Such a privilege to represent the outstanding teachers in my district.
I went to college in Arkansas at Harding University where I earned my B.A. in Secondary English Education, then received my Master's degree at Kennesaw State University. Most recently, I earned my Specialists degree in Secondary English Education from the University of West Georgia. Additionally, I am certified/ endorsed to teach ESOL, Reading, Gifted, AP Seminar, AP Research, and AP Literature.
