I am a National Board Certified Teacher. My certification was as an early childhood generalist. I retired from teaching after 44 years in 2013.. Forty of those years were in first grade. I have taught in West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia. I taught in urban and Chapter 1 schools. My classes were very diverse and had all styles of learners. I also was a certified AIMS Education trainer and conducted workshops on hands-on math and science strategies. I taught for the University of Virginia as an adjunct professor. My classes were focused on teaching elementary teachers how to incorporate hands-on teaching strategies in math and science.
My teaching style has centered on integrating the curriculum to make it relevant to my students. I was a very hands-on teacher. I wanted my students to develop their understanding of all areas of the curriculum by manipulating objects and being active learners. I wanted the students to develop a Love of Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies through books, and enlarge their experiences. I made my classroom an experience where they could see a wider world that they could explore. I wanted to learn to be magical while meeting their individual needs. With that experience, I wanted to share this expertise with other teachers through TpT. I might not be in a classroom, but I hope my lessons can help a teacher and their students find fun in learning, even the most basic skills.
National Board Certified Teacher, 2000-2020. Keep America Beautiful Award for developing a play on environmental education. Virginia Education Award and grants.

I loved teaching and watching students learn to read and understand the fun in education. I also raised two daughters and now have four grandchildren. I love dogs and cats, like to travel, read, walk, and enjoy nature, especially the ocean. I was a People to People Teacher Leader for six years and was able to travel with students to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, England, and France. All of these activities enhanced my personal learning and life, which then led to the enrichment of my students. If you have any questions or suggestions please email me at mickeysplacetpt@gmail.com
