I am currently a teacher with 20+ years of teaching experience in Deaf Education. Over the past years, I have enjoyed the positions of Teacher of English (High School classroom), itinerant teacher, infant specialist and administrator. I strive to continue my own education and remain on top of current events and trends in both regular and Deaf Education. I enjoy sharing my experiences with other and collaborating with like minded professionals.
I believe that students learn English best through their primary language. I, therefore, teach my students the grammatical features of ASL along side English language instruction. I find this gives them the ability to talk about language, understand it's purpose, recognize patterns and transliterate between the two languages more easily increasing reading and writing abilities. I am also a firm believer in project based learning. Hands on experiences and applicable life skills increase retention and understanding. I also encourage my students to harness the powerful capabilities of technology to provide access and open doors to communication.
