As a dedicated and passionate educator, I have had the privilege of working in a variety of teaching roles throughout my career. My journey began as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, where I assisted in classroom preparation, student troubleshooting, and supervision. This experience laid the groundwork for my transition to the role of Graduate Cartographer, where I honed my cartographic design skills and geographic knowledge by working closely with clients on mapping projects and creating custom cartographic materials. In 2018, I stepped into the role of an AP Government and AP World History Teacher, which has allowed me to combine my love for cartography with my passion for teaching. I have since expanded my teaching portfolio to include World, American, and ESOL History. In my classes, I am committed to preparing engaging lesson plans, activities, and presentations that foster a deep understanding of the subject matter for my high school students.
As an educator, my teaching style revolves around the belief that every student has the potential to grasp complex concepts when presented in a clear and engaging manner. I combine my cartographic design skills and geographic knowledge to create visually appealing and informative materials, which help make even the most challenging topics accessible to my students. In the classroom, I prioritize fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, sharing their thoughts, and participating in group activities. I believe that active engagement and critical thinking are essential components of the learning process, and I encourage my students to explore the connections between people, places, and ideas in a meaningful way. By utilizing technology and creative materials, I am able to keep my students engaged and motivated throughout their learning journey, ultimately preparing them to become global citizens who appreciate the intricate relationships between history, geography, and culture.
