I am a high school English teacher with a flair for composition and helping students think critically and communicate their ideas with clarity and power. In 2015, I earned a M.A.T. at James Madison University in English and Secondary Education. Since then, I have taught English 1, English 2, Advanced Composition, and Creative Writing in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. I currently teach a pre-AP course—Advanced Composition—that I designed for upper-level freshmen and English 2 Honors to sophomores. While my expertise is geared toward the honors-level student, my lessons are all differentiated for multiple intelligences and abilities.
I have a very serious passion for teaching and facilitating an active learning environment in which students think critically and discover their potential through hands-on activities. I employ both mastery-based and project-based learning techniques, so you'll notice that the majority of my formative and summative assignments require students to think outside the box! I am a meticulously organized teacher and urge my students to practice organization in their own lives. As such, each unit of work is uniform in style, which helps my students maintain a cohesive binder.
