The 20-21 and 19-20 school years have been unprecedented and challenging. I started teaching 8th grade math and Algebra 1 in the fall of 2019 at a Title 1 school where a large portion of my students are performing below grade level. Throughout my short teaching career I have learned much and have grown tremendously. I wanted to share some of the resources that have worked well with students in my classroom and my hope is that your students enjoy them as well as mine did.
I teach in a discovery-based learning environment where students are encouraged and challenged to discover concepts with a little teacher guidance. The resources I will create stem from my philosophy that students learn best when they discover information for themselves. Secondly, my department uses only standards-based grading so many of my resources will not come with a traditional grading rubric. Instead, the activities posted will be ones that help students progress towards mastery.
