TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been a teacher now for 13 years. I have experience teaching 3 years as a math high school teacher. I now teach 7th grade math (pre-algebra & algebra) and have been doing so for 8 years. I also have experience tutoring up to senior year (including SAT prep for math). I have my supervisors certificate and also my administrators certificate. I am certified K-5 and also middle school mathematics.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in a student centered classroom. This is where students have more responsibility for their own learning. My classroom is called a learner activity classroom. I have a resource table where students can grab any resource they need throughout our unit. I also have a class website with additional resources, homework, daily agendas, exit cards and do nows. There is also an expert board in my room. If there is a student who is an "expert" at something (it can even be organization) their name is put on the board and students know that they can go to that student as well for help. My students work in groups the majority of the time. I believe in homework but I do not believe in extra credit. My students WORK in my room, there is no time for "free periods" or chit-chatting. My students are engaged for the most part. I use technology pretty much each day. The technology in my class is a tool. I also am a co-teacher with my special education math teacher. We've been working together for 8 years now. I have experience working with special education students and ESL students. Again, I love what I do each day. Teaching is my life! (besides my family :)
