Four years as a paraprofessional servicing 4th and 5th grade. Two years co-teaching in a substantially-separate classroom. Currently teaching 5th grade ELA to multiple levels of student; much experience with adapting existing curricula including the creation of differentiated materials to service ELLs, students with an inclusion model, and non-readers within a general-education classroom requiring more visuals and simplified assignments in order to reach high-level expectations and high-level curricula.
I teach using many styles throughout the day, as I have to adapt what I do to the students that I teach and the levels I must reach. I primarily keep the teacher-talk time to a minimum, encouraging student collaboration and student-led discussion. I also employ daily "sprint-style" paired reading and writing activities in order to build stamina in my students.
