I have worked primarily in elementary education settings. I have worked one on one with second graders, especially ESL students. I taught a semester long as a student teacher with 5th grade students. I taught a 3 month long summer program for adult immigrants and refugees in GED prep, reading, writing, math, and forklift driving courses.
I my eyes, learning will not occur if there is no experience tied to it. When fun is being had, memories are made, and learning is locked in. Therefore, my teaching is centered around experiential learning and interactive lessons. I like students to be innovative and creative thinkers. In order to instill these qualities in my students, I rely heavily on collaboration, group work, and higher level thinking opportunities through rigorous questioning. I teach my students emotional intelligence as well as the worthwhile aspects of self reflection.
