I have taught for head start for 6 years, and am currently in my first year of public school teaching combination preschool and kindergarten in a rural school. I have a B.S. Degree in Early Childhood Education with an emphasis in diversity and curriculum and instruction. Before my time with head start, I worked as an assistant teacher with a family child care serving children 0-12, and also as an assistant teacher in an infant-toddler program. Put together, I have about 10-12 years experience in the Early Childhood field. I am currently working towards my elementary education license by completing student teaching in a first-grade classroom!
In the past I have used teaching strategies gold's online system and the accompanying curriculum books. I have very strong roots in Reggio Emilia education, and I am always striving to find ways to bring this approach into the scripted curriculum and finding ways to incorporate more child-driven projects. I teach everything with a strong foundation in the arts, as I believe this is the primary method children use to communicate their knowledge.
I have presented at state OPI conferences to other preschools, and have served as a model classroom for other head starts in the state. I have developed at least one full-fledged curriculum using the TS Gold curriculum resources to build my own study. Most recently I was a contributing member of the Montana Literacy Team to write the Montana Literacy Plan document which is implemented state wide.
I have a Bachelor's of Science in Early Childhood Education with an emphasis in Diversity and Curriculum and instruction from the University of Montana Western.
I am 29 years old and living in Rural Montana! I strive to keep my classroom "up to date" and incorporate the newest child development theories into my practice. I teach in a small rural school with around 70 students where I strive to bring nature and ranch life into the classroom and curriculum.
