I have been a primary grade teacher, K-6 basic skills specialist, Title I K-6 reading specialist, tutored privately in reading and writing, written district curriculum, provided school and district literacy workshops, and mentored first year teachers online. I am currently an online university instructor, teaching research based reading and writing methods' courses to future teachers and teachers completing a master's degree or professional growth.
I have a passion for promoting literacy, including student ownership of reading and writing development and a love of learning. I accomplish this through engaging positive reading and writing materials and experiences, for both teachers and their learners. My teaching is research and assessment driven, need based, logically sequenced, and user friendly. I am a lifelong learner and continuously refine the literacy strategies I teach students and share with other educators.
I have received Advanced Facilitator Certification as an online university instructor for maintaining high teaching and facilitation expectations.
My graduate work is in reading and educational leadership. I have an MA plus sixty graduate hours. My BA and MA are from Arizona State University, and I took principal certification courses from Northern Arizona University. Professional growth is part of my ongoing education.
I enjoy teaching in the online environment, creating new literacy materials, and spending time with my adorable Lhasa Apso named Pippin! Eating healthy and exercising are priorities in my daily life.
