I started my teaching career at a correctional facility. There, I was responsible for the education of juvenile male felons, ages 12-20. I am now in my fifth year of teaching and am currently at a rural public school. There, I teach 9th, 10th, and 12th grade ELA classes. Because of my diverse experiences, I am able to mold my lessons and modify materials to adequately fit my students' needs.
I love being as creative as possible! I am constantly encouraging my students to use their creativity to their fullest extent. I am a no-nonsense educator who pushes students to think outside the box. I'm a proponent of uniqueness and individualism and hope that my students can take what they've learned in my room and apply not just to standardized tests, but to life and a love of learning as well.
In 2011, I was awarded a $2,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Education. The grant was used to teach the incarcerated youth I was working with how to plant, grow, and maintain farming crops. After going through the learning process and successfully growing corn, beans, squash, tomatoes, pumpkins, and various fruits and flowers, the youth then donated their harvest to a local homeless shelter.
I am a graduate of Wright State University. There, I received both my Bachelors and Masters degrees in Integrated Language Arts with a focus and certification in grades 7-12. I am certified to teach College Credit Plus courses as well. I have used my degrees to teach language arts courses, reading lab intervention, and a contemporary literature elective.
Harry Potter nerd who's still waiting on my Hogwarts acceptance letter :)
