I have been teaching for 20 years. In that time, I have been an early childhood resource specialist, literacy specialist, literacy coach, reading teacher, ESL/ELD teacher, and secondary English teacher. Perhaps more importantly, I am a single parent to two teenagers with complex special needs, so I have a great deal of experience with systems of care, home-based therapies, wraparound services, and the trials and tribulations of raising children with special needs.
At my core, I am deeply rooted in a constructivist approach to education. I also believe in a structured balanced literacy program, early intervention, social-emotional learning, positive behavior systems and reinforcement and, above all, a team approach to reaching each and every child.
