"A bit about my philosophy" taken from my syllabus: I prefer the “coaching” method of teaching. Just like in any sport, you need to practice in order to get better. The same is true with reading and writing. You get out of it what you put in. I can give you the materials, drills and practice, but you need to put the effort in. I also strongly believe that you should be becoming independent, responsible young adults. Therefore, I will not be by-passing you to communicate directly with your parent/s/guardian/s. Yes - I will be sending emails and posting information on my website, but it is your responsibility to share what’s going on with those at home (my emails may be as simple as: “Ask your child how he/she is currently doing in class,” etc.). Also, if you have a concern/question, please see me directly. If you’re not comfortable doing that in class, shoot me an email. I also need to be able to trust your discretion. In literature, there are bountiful choices. I will allow you to choose your own books. However, not all parents are ok with all choices. Please respect your parents’ wishes when choosing books and follow their guidelines.
