My teaching style largely encompasses a combination of guided discovery and self-check methods. The guided discovery method is great because it is a quick and efficient way to get students motivated. Also, deciding when it is appropriate to use a skill makes more sense to students when they have solved the problem on their own. This teaching style forces students to problem solve and independent problem solving will more likely lead the learners to remember particular aspects of a skill. I love using the self-check method because it gives students a chance to evaluate their own performance which helps them to remember the individual parts of a whole concept. I find that it helps students retain cues through self-diagnosis. Also it allows students to engage in independent practice.
A favourite shining teacher moment for me happened shortly after I began writing my own children's songs in French to help engage and motivate my primary-level Core French students in learning vocabulary. I learned to play the ukulele and taught my classes the simple songs I'd created. My grade 2/3 class in my first year of teaching was even invited to perform the songs at the end-of-term holiday assembly! This was one of the moments that inspired me to create my store on TPT. I love having the opportunity to share my creativity with the world in the hopes that it will benefit and inspire other teachers!
