KJ’s ESL Stuff was born out of a desire to share engaging material and great resources with our ESL and ELA teaching colleagues. We are two ESL teachers currently teaching English at the elementary level in the province of Quebec, Canada. As English teachers, we have taught elementary and high school level students in Quebec’s public schools system. From first graders to adult learners, our focus has always been on developing material that entertain and nourish our students’ minds as well as on providing them with resources that suited their needs. We are currently teaching an intensive English immersion program and love to challenge our students on a daily basis with all types of activities, projects and oral interaction games. Experienced teachers have developed the material in our store. It was tested in class and it is 100% students-approved. We sincerely hope that you will enjoy using our material and that you will come across one or two things that will help you provide that special student of yours what he or she needs to keep progressing. It is always a pleasure to hear that we are making a difference in your classrooms and that our resources help you make learning fun as well as spend less time on lesson planning!
As ESL teachers, we believe that the fundamental objective of language teaching is to help learners develop the competencies and skills to learn on their own. As language teachers, we are working on a daily basis to help students communicate orally using their L2 and love seeing them take risks. Cornerstones of our approach to ESL teaching stems from our background training in cooperative and collaborative language learning. We believe in the value of knowing the theory behind what we teach and how we choose to teach it. We love incorporating technology and hands-on activities that keep students engaged and excited about learning English. To us, teaching is about involving students and making them accountable for their own learning. Hence, we strongly believe in the value of creating positive interdependency among our students. That is why we love to adapt our material and differentiate learning experiences according to our actual students’ needs. It is always a top priority when developing our yearly curriculum.
Nothing compares to the light in the eyes of a student that has just understood something he had been struggling with for a while. We help kids learn the basics of a language and help them progress over the years until we finally bid them farewell as they move on to the next big step of their life: high school. There is nothing like having an ex-student coming back to school to say have a chat with us or getting a thank you email years later. That is why we do what we do and why we love doing it!
