Before I began teaching I worked in numerous careers centered on supporting childhood development. However, without a doubt, the two careers I attribute having the most profound affect on the teacher I am today are camp counseling and working in Children’s Hospital Inpatient Psychiatric Unit. Both careers taught me the necessity of building rapport with students, creating lessons that are student focused and differentiated, and, most important of all, that taking care of yourself before anyone else is the greatest career persevering decision you will ever make.
