TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been a teacher since 2004. I started in a high school teaching creative writing and American literature. I then worked as a curriculum writer for an after school tutoring company in Chicago, focusing on their reading and math lessons for middle school students. I taught English in South Korea for a year, focusing on middle school students but also working with 4 year old children to college students. After returning home, I worked in a very small district and taught just about every high school English course possible, plus Spanish. In my current district, I have taught high school freshmen and juniors, and I currently teach middle school English, World Languages, and Exploring Spanish

MY TEACHING STYLE

Well, everything revolves around CCSS and data. But, I let students know that learning is a gift that not all kids around the world get. I don't do too many group or creative writing projects anymore, but some of the older plans may include that. I try to pack as much into a school year as possible and focus on the skills they will need in the future to, essentially, look educated. I think I'm creative and fun without being cheesy. I sincerely want students to appreciate literature, understand what they are reading, and write logically.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Hmmm...several students have awarded me with the Favorite Teacher award :)

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY
