I studied Political Science and earned a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. I received Certifications in Social Studies and Mathematics. I have taught at a rural school in Maryland and an urban school in Pennsylvania. I have taught Practical Math, Algebra I, Algebra II, US History (pre-colonial to the present), and Advanced Placement courses in US Government and Comparative Politics. Not that it matters here, but I also coach baseball.
I am more prone to a Socratic teaching method. I use PowerPoints to present material and encourage discussion. I align those PowerPoints with reading in the textbook, however I'm well aware that most students will not do the reading. This is why I use what are called "Reading Companions": these are worksheets I've created that follow the text and require students to at least glance at the information. I then follow the notes and reading with quizzes and tests. My style is pretty simple, straight out of a time when teachers taught content and didn't cater to the weakest link. But it works!
