TEACHING EXPERIENCE

2016-2017 marks my 10th year as a professional teacher, but I have been in the classroom helping and volunteering much longer! I have been fortunate to volunteer or do college course work in every grade in Elementary School (Pre-K - 6). I have also worked as a summer camp counselor and for YMCA sponsored before and after care.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in giving students the help they need, but also letting them 'fly on their own.' I love watching the light bulb go off when students finally 'get it' and love even more when they've had to struggle a little for their new knowledge.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

During the 2012-2013 school year, I completed the SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) which was created to better learning for ELL students. Upon completion of this online course, I was asked to submit my lesson plan for a SIOP Book that was in production at the time. I just finished a year of working with both 4th and 5th grade student working together in the same class. What an amazing (and challenging) opportunity! Throughout the year, we were also chosen for an Arts Integration Pilot Program in our school. It was a fantastic year full of learning and creativity - on all our parts!!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended Elementary and High School in General Brown Central School District in the small town of Dexter, NY. Following graduation, I went to the local community college (Jefferson Community College) for my Liberal Arts Degree. Graduation in 2003, led me to State University of New York at Plattsburgh. While at SUNY Plattsburgh, I obtained an undergraduate degree in Elementary and Special Education with a concentration in Music. I stayed at SUNY Plattsburgh in 2006 to get my Graduate Degree in Special Education Birth - Grade 2. In 2007, I made the move from New York to Maryland for a job teaching in Prince George's County.
