I currently teach Computer Science and Technology at a public middle school in Brooklyn, New York. My school is in NYC's District 75, which is comprised entirely of students with IEP's (or students in a special education program). We tend to work on many creative projects during the course of the year, including but not limited to making newsletters, photography units, beginner and physical coding (Arduino, Lego, etc), audio mixing and producing music videos, 3D printing and more! I have been teaching in various capacities over the past 10 years and have worked in both self-contained and cluster positions at public, charter, and private institutions. My career in education began in Daegu, South Korea, where I taught for two years after graduating from university. The first year, I taught the Panda Bears - a kindergarten class that initiated my passion for education. The following year, I taught conversational English language classes at Daegu Health College before returning to the United States to begin my Masters program in conjunction with the New York City Teaching Fellows.
Hands-on, project-based learning experiences provide my students with the most motivating opportunities to develop the concepts and skills that will allow them to successfully participate and excel as independent citizens in today's quickly changing world. My primary objective is to provide students with the tools to assess and prioritize information in their environment and make safe, responsible decisions while understanding how to best create and act on the opportunities available to them to further their lives' ambitions.
