TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching since 2007 in New York City public schools, the majority of those years at the International High School at Lafayette in Brooklyn. I currently teach global studies to freshmen and sophomores, although I have taught U.S. history, Government and Economics to all grades in the past. In addition, as a school for recent immigrants, I make daily use of my TESOL background and build language integration and sheltered instruction into all of my products. I have also taught Regents preparation courses for global history and U.S. history and English. I am currently teaching a course to prepare students for the AP U.S. history exam. Finally, I have taught elective courses focusing on topics such as food, cooking and documentary films.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My goal is to design products that: 1) engage all types of learning styles in a student-centered classroom 2) consider the needs of English language learners and special education students but challenge even the most advanced learners 3) incorporate the educational requirements of the Common Core Standards, the Danielson framework for teaching and the values of Webb's Depth of Knowledge 4) inspire critical, analytical thinking in speaking and writing

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

-Selected as a Model Teacher for the Learning Partners Program (2015) -Lead presenter at TESOL Convention (2014) -Nominated for Teaching Fellows Award for Classroom Excellence (2008)
