Jackie Hurley

I have taught for 38 years. 35 years in kindergarten during the regular school year with a variety of elementary grades during summer school. I have been the tech person for our school for the last 3 years. I teach some children K-5 in the lab occasionally, I have an FCAT tutor group of 24 before school in the lab several months before FCAT. I teach teachers how to use the technology in their classrooms. Every classroom has 5 computers, a document camera, a projector and a smartboard.

I have taught with learning centers in my kindergarten classroom even before it was popular. 38 years ago there were no teacher stores or online sites to buy teaching materials so you created everything for your classroom. I like a classroom buzzing with energy and excitement. I like a routine that the children understand and follow so that the most learning can take place.

I live in Pensacola, FL with my husband and 2 poodles. He taught for 30 years in elementary school and therefore understands my drive to work and create into the wee hours of the night. I feel most creative between the hours of midnight and 3 in the morning. I love to read and hope to instill in every child I have contact with to pick up a book and give it a try!
