TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've taught 2nd grade for 4 years and 1st grade for 23 years. Teaching is my passion. There is nothing I'd rather do that assist children as they become strong readers and build self-confidence. I love to challenge my students and watch as they realize they've discovered the answer. My school clusters our gifted students. For 27 years I've taught my grade level's gifted students in combination with my general ed. students.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I feel it is most important for my students to be strong readers who are independent, and use critical thinking skills. Most lessons and assignments are differentiated. My goal is to challenge every child, ask questions that help them meet the challenge, and provide fun, engaging activities in the process.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I am honored to have been chosen one of my county's Top Five Teachers of the Year, as well as being named Most Influential Teacher by the valedictorian of one of our district high schools.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a bachelor's degree in Primary Education, K - 6th. My master's degree is in Curriculum and Instruction, with a focus on Expressive Arts. I also hold an endorsement in Gifted and Talented Education. The most important education I've received has come from my peer teachers and students over the years. There's nothing like hands-on experience!
