I taught 31 years in the public school system. During this time, most of it was spent in 3rd grade. I also had substitution experience before my classroom assignment. I was a part of the 4 Blocks movement as well as The Daily 5 models that were used within my building. I presented materials at faculty meetings on both of these models.
My teaching style is structured with organization both on my part and in helping kids become organized. I like hands-on experiences. I like the combination of teaching being both an art and a science.
I was chosen as Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year in 1998.
I began my education studies at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. I completed both my undergraduate and graduate degrees at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. I have attended numerous conferences as well as have presented conferences to my local district.
I have been married 43 years to a wonderful guy--David. We have 2 terrific children: Jason and Kelly. Jason and Merry, and Kelly and Ryan, have given us our "angels"--our grandchildren: Olivia, Annalise, and James David. Family is the center of our lives.
