TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Hello, I'm Mrs. Hoppen and I am in my 7th year of teaching in the Chicago area. Within this time, I have taught a variety of classes and levels, including the following: Honors Biology, AP Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Geoscience, and Forensic Science.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have a focus on student inquiry with intentionally relevant lessons to the students I serve. My classroom is RARELY quiet, so don't be surprised to see many notes of teamwork or discussion!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I am currently developing my (first!) professional development opportunity for teachers based on using COVID-19 as a central phenomena for teaching protein synthesis through Northwestern University. I've also received other awards and scholarships through my Master's program, however, my highest achievement so far has been the numerous students who go on to study Biology and Forensics after high school. Is there a bigger award than an email from a former student asking if you've seen the latest scientific development? In my opinion, that's the greatest award.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I hold an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with the following endorsements in Grades 9-12: Biology; Environmental Science; Earth and Space Science; English as a Second Language, I received my Master of Education in Secondary Education with Distinction with an International Baccalaureate Certification in Middle Years and Diploma Programme in June 2019. I graduated an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Zoology with Environmental Science Co-Major in May 2015.
