34 years experience in teaching Mathematics (18 as Head of Mathematics). Have taught Grades 6-12, ages 11-18 (and Homeschoolers). I have also trained teachers on the use of Autograph, a dynamic software for teaching Math.
Various styles: Warm ups (starters) investigations, group work, discussions, feedback both ways, use of ICT, peer assessment, practical work where appropriate, etc. I also do magic tricks to gain attention and confidence in me. In some of my lessons, students are given the opportunity to teach a part of a topic to their peers or pupils in Grades below them! It depends on the Grade/age/group and level. Questionning techniques play a large part in my lessons. I have always believed that if a student does not answer your question, it does not mean that they do not know the answer; hence you must rephrase the question until you gain a positive result!
Master Trainer for use of the dynamic Autograph software in the classroom.
Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, U.K Post Graduate Certificate of Eduction, U.K
I love teaching Math and try to instil confidence in all my students (especially the not so confident with math ones ) and I do everything possible to gain their confidence in me to the extent of never hesitating to ask for help. I also challenge the more able ones. I also try to cater for all learning styles by using visual aids (ICT in particular) and practical equipment. Group work, peer assesment, investigations, team teaching and peer observations are encouraged in my lessons. I have an open door policy and believe in sharing resources and welcome feedback.
