TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a middle and secondary school teacher based in the tropics of Darwin, Australia. After a brief foray as a professional editor I entered teaching through the Teach for Australia program in 2015. I was attracted to the program’s strong focus on helping every child reach their full potential, regardless of race, gender or postcode. This is a mission which continues to drive my work today. Over my seven (plus) years in the classroom, I have taught a range of subjects but specialise in English and Humanities. While my materials are not exclusively targeted at disengaged youth, I have spent considerable time working with this demographic and developing materials to meet their needs. It was my search for engaging, relevant, rigorous and meaningful activities to share with my students that initially led me to TpT, first as a customer and now as a seller (and still a customer).

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am absolutely convinced that well-sequenced, logical and engaging material, presented with intelligence, compassion and dedication can give any child the skills they need to be successful in our changing 21st century world. My products on TpT represent the best activities I have developed and honed in the classroom. As needs change (such as the distance education necessity of 2020) I am committed to updating all products to better support teachers and impact students.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

In 2019 I was finalist for NT Secondary Teacher of the Year, and winner of Teacher of the Year in the Palmerston & Rural area for my work at Palmerston College. I was also featured on the nationally broadcast (Australia) 7:30 Report in 2018 as an alumni of the Teach for Australia Leadership Development Program (2015 - 16)

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Michael: *Bachelor of Media and Communications from the University of Melbourne * CELTA Certificate of English Language Teaching from RMIT University *Master of Education (Teaching) from Deakin University

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

In my spare time I enjoy camping, hiking, speaking Spanish and listening to the Hamilton soundtrack.
