Hi there! I have taught for 6 years and half of those in a reading-centered school. I've also taught grades 5 through 12 and I love every one of them. I have been in a co-teaching classroom for three of those years, so I have seen different styles, and dabbled in other content, besides ELA. I have been part of high-growth teams my entire career, and this year, I am on track to grow kids more than three years in just one year!
I rely on highly differentiated work. That is the key to great growth and high achievement! I also believe that the gradual release model works, as long as you don't drown kids in the "I do" and "we do" portions! I have a warm-demanding affect, and I try to bring a sense of urgency and purpose to every minute of class. I say, "when you come in, you should be reading the board already!" I also say, "I am thankful to be your teacher."
On part of a very small team of teachers who won the prestigious Colorado Succeeds Prize for Transformational Impact" award last year. I have been in a pay for performance district, and I got a raise every year that I was there, and my data was good every year- if that counts! When I wasn't teaching, I earned several awards in the U.S. Army as a Mental Health Specialist!
I graduated my undergraduate program with a degree in English Literature. Summa Cum Laude! I have my Master's degree in Educational Leadership, and I have some coursework completed for a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction.
I am a single mom, and besides educaiton, my passions are marketing, investing, "The Office", terrible dad jokes, and nice chocolate! Check out my webpage here: https://ggaa.samcart.com/products/ggaa-class
