Gods Monsters and Heroes of World Mythology

This year was my 29th teaching English Language Arts at the high school level. More recently, I was asked to create a World Mythology Elective, and "Gods, Monsters, and Heroes" was born! It has quickly grown to be the most popular elective offered at our high school.

My love of mythology began in third grade when my teacher handed me a textbook with the painting "Landscape With the Fall of Icarus" on the cover. I was fascinated by the Greek Myths I discovered inside. As I continued my educational journey, I was disappointed to find that our curriculum included the mythology of only a handful of cultures (namely Greek, Egyptian, and Norse). As an adult, I dove deeply into the mythology of the world, and now have made it my mission to help teachers share the stories of the underrepresented cultures with their students as well.
