Giving Each Other Wings

I have been teaching for over 25 years and enjoying every moment. I have taught all grades from kindergarten to fifth grade and must admit I love every grade. I have taught in some traditional settings and some nontraditional settings. A big part of my experience was at a small school where the teachers were empowered to run the school and redesign the district curriculum. It was a lot of work, but what a fantastic experience!

I believe that students need to be engaged and empowered as learners to really grow and learn. I also believe that students need to feel part of a safe learning community for them to be willing to take risks as learners. For it is only when students feel safe to take risks, that they truly own their learning. Whenever possible, I teach by integrating science and social studies across all curriculum areas: reading, writing, and math.

I was awarded "Teacher of the Year" by a major University in Pa. I have also been asked to serve on many curriculum committees and was even referred to for many years as "Mrs. Frizzle". It has been an honor to be asked to run workshops for other teachers in reading, writing, higher order thinking skills, and curriculum development. I am always amazed by how much I learn from the teachers at these workshops!

I have a masters in elementary education, but have taken many additional courses which I felt would directly benefit me in the classroom.

I have a passion for learning which I hope transfers to my own students.
