Sheri Amsel taught college science for 10 years. She then began publishing picture books for kids on science and nature topics. She also wrote and illustrated a series of wildlife field guides and science workbooks for K- 8. Her area of expertise are anatomy, life science and environmental science. Sheri has visited over 500 schools in the U.S. with science and literacy based programming. Her science resource website: Exploringnature.org serves schools, homeschool families, museums, nature centers, zoos and camps all over the U.S. and in 20 countries.

In 2009, Sheri Amsel was awarded the Elizabeth Abernathy Hull Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Environmental Education of Youths, by the National Garden Club.
Sheri Amsel has undergraduate degrees in botany and zoology and a masters degree in human and veterinary anatomy and biomedical illustration.
