TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught high school English for twelve years, during which time I have worked with special education and inclusion students, college prep students, and gifted students. Ninth Grade Literature and American Literature are the areas in which I have the most experience. I love helping students tackle a daunting task-- whether it's reading The Odyssey or writing a term paper-- and making it accessible to them. My favorite comment to hear is, "I'm not scared of this anymore!"

MY TEACHING STYLE

I try to find a balance in my classroom between students' need for structure and their need to explore on their own. I try to eliminate discipline problems and boredom before they start by being well-prepared for my students. I frequently create my own materials so that they fit exactly with my students' needs. Teaching on a block schedule has helped me learn to vary activities throughout a class period, so that we incorporate multiple learning modes into our routine each day.
