TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught high school for 6 years, the first two years in the SF Bay Area and the second 4 years in rural northern California. Freshman and sophomore years were my specialty, but I really enjoyed the occasional junior class. While teaching the classics is important, I also love including multicultural books, plays, poetry, and essays throughout the entire year. I find students learn so much more about themselves and the world around them if they are able to read a book, therefore "live a life", with a different perspective than their own.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I really got to know my students through interactive journaling, collected every two weeks. Group projects, cooperative learning, debates, and incorporating music/arts brought out the best in them. No one slept in my class!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended public schools in the SF Bay area, then attended Diablo Valley College, where I earned my AA. I transferred to Chico State for my B.A. in Social Science, then returned to Cal State East Bay to earn my single subject teaching credential in English.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I now live in a rural, small town in northern California. I stopped teaching to raise my own children, and help regularly in their schools. I love this area, but also see the need for more cultural diversity and tolerance, which is what inspired me to join Teachers Pay Teachers. Much love to all the teachers out there--you are appreciated!
