I have been teaching English to Multilingual Learners since 2013. My first language is English and my second language is Spanish. I'm currently learning Portuguese, which I hope will become my third language. Over the course of my career, I have met so many young people from all over the world! I started out teaching K-5 in an elementary school, and I have now found my home teaching middle school in grades 6-8. I love learning about other languages and cultures while helping my students navigate their new culture and language. It is the most rewarding and fulfilling experience to be an ELL teacher! I also teach the following courses at my local community college in the ESOL teacher certification program: -Methods of ESOL Instruction -Multicultural Considerations in Education -Curriculum & Assessment in ESOL
I believe that learning happens when the affective filter is low. This means creating a safe space that is predictable, organized, managed, and respectful of all. I use effective ELL strategies in my teaching, such as scaffolding, visual support, graphic organizers, word banks, sentence frames, and more! I love to celebrate culture whenever possible, and I love to incorporate culture into my lesson plans.
