I have been teaching in Texas schools for 20 years. I have taught middle school and all four levels of high school English, Creative Writing, Practical Writing, Communications, and advanced classes.
I have a mixed teaching style, but most of my lessons are highly student-centered. I believe in a mixture of types of lessons--some independent work, some group work, some partner work, and some direct teaching.
My first year teaching I won the Rookie of the Year award, and since then I've been teacher of the year four times.
I attended Texas public schools from kindergarten through graduation. In high school, I attended a magnet program for math and science. After high school, I attended and graduated from the University of Texas with honors in English and a dual-major in History. I earned my teaching certificate through Texas State while taking graduate English classes, and am currently pursuing a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Education through UT Arlington.
Since I started teaching I have been creating my own materials. I find that the specific needs of my students can't always be met with the textbook. I have shared my work with other teachers for years, and have always received great feedback. I've had teachers from other parts of the country find materials on my teacher website and ask to use them as well. I'm happy to help other teachers find useful materials that may help students across the country.
