I have 12 years of teaching experience, with 4 years at a non-profit school for students with Speech and Language disabilities and 8 years at a large city school working with general education and special education students. In addition, I have worked as an instructional coach for the last two years. Prior to that, I mentored new teachers for five years. Additionally, I regularly facilitate professional learning sessions for Special Education teachers, English teachers, and the entire faculty.
I endorse student-centered instruction and aim to facilitate learning for my students. I believe it is imperative to incorporate culturally relevant texts into my ELA units in order to promote engagement and to encourage students to make connections to literacy works. Student discourse is a cornerstone in my lessons because whoever is doing the talking is doing the learning.
