I've had the privilege to inspire and gain inspiration from children ranging from kindergarten through high school--and I've loved it! As with all teachers, I learn from each child as much as I teach. Each grade level presents unique challenges, but they also have many common elements. My friends and colleagues share the same feeling: all children have the desire to learn and grow. The key is creating an atmosphere that fosters confidence and enthusiasm so that each child is ready and willing to learn.

Every moment, every single event is a learning opportunity. Sometimes the most meaningful and educational lessons were ones I never even planned for. With that said, teachers do need to lay out their plans and prepare even though many lessons may end up taking a beautiful turn down an unbeaten path. Success in the classroom is a challenging task if you're determined to reach every student and the willingness to abandon the best of paper plans for a better learning opportunity in the moment takes courage and confidence. In order to effectively engage students in this teaching style, organization and structure are key. As trite as it sounds, there is no doubt that failing to plan is absolutely planning to fail, and you certainly can't be upset with where you end up if you never had a plan for where you were headed! So plan, plan, plan, and then prepare to be amazed by the beautiful side-streets and scenic routes you'll encounter along your way.

Though my formal education includes a Bachelor's in Middle Childhood Education from Georgia State University and a Master's in Early Education from the University of North Florida, teaching has been ingrained in me as the most important contribution to society. Early in life, I learned the impact of teaching by listening to my grandfather, my grandmother, and my mother share classroom strategies together. It was a common occurrence to encounter a grateful student while out with my family.
