Prior to earning my teaching degree in the late '90s, I taught adults and children to ride and train horses. Since then, I have taught in a variety of different contexts from K-8 Gen Ed to specialists role teaching CTE and developing at-risk learners to student leaders at the middle school level. Now I am teaching K-2 Social-Emotional Learning through authentic STEAM explorations. I have worked in test development and scoring for Smarter Balanced in the areas of ELA and Math. Getting challenging students to show up early rather than collect tardies as if they were in-game achievements. drives me to jump into my boots to show up to teach. An NBCT, I have taught at least 1500 students over the years applying decades of teaching k-8, horses, their owners and even cows. I Knowing that teachers need support and free time too, I enjoy spending time with my family and our horses, ranching and deep woods fly fishing.
