I have a long history of tutoring beginning in elementary school and continuing through college. In college I studied history and elementary education, but decided to stay home after the birth of our oldest. For the last ten years I have been formally homeschooling my two children. My oldest has presented a number of opportunities to stretch myself because he has been a reluctant learner with several learning and physical disabilities.
I am an upbeat and fun teacher who seeks to find new and interesting ways to engage my children (or others who I am teaching). We like to use hands on learning techniques such as lapbooking, notebooking, and games. We also love including arts and crafts in the learning process.
My daughter says that I am a spectacular teacher, while she may be biased it is enough for me. :-D
I was a "gifted student" who was bored with school and spent a lot of time learning about homeschool starting in 7th grade. My dream was to quit school and teach myself. While I was never homeschooled and there were times I thought about dropping out of school, I managed to graduate from High School and went on to attend Central Michigan University. There I studied history and loved the idea of going on to get my Ph.D. Before that could happen I gave birth to my oldest and started thinking about homeschooling once again. I have never stopped educating myself and think that it is important to keep learning throughout your life.
In addition to raising two children and homeschooling them I have written thousands of articles for numerous websites, blogs, and ezines over the last 11 years. I continue to enjoy getting outside, learning about the world around us, and digging in to learning with my family. I hope you enjoy the resources I have worked hard to create. ~Danelle Karth
