Disruptive Teaching

I have spent 14 years teaching both regular and special education students in private residential treatment facilities, alternative schools, and public school settings. The majority of my experience has been teaching core content and social skills to students ages 10-18 with difficulties managing emotions and/or behaviors. This includes experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder as well as learning disabilities and an array of mental health concerns. I am currently an assistive technology specialist focusing on making learning accessible to all students.

I truly believe that students come to school each day with the goal of succeeding. Encouraging students, motivating students, making them feel successful and excited about learning is the most effective way in ensuring student success. In addition to consistency, a good sense of humor, and constant efforts to form relationships with students, technology plays a huge role in my teaching style. We are teaching the first generation of students for whom technology has always been a way of life. Their parents grew up with technology and they have been immersed in it since they were born. We need to adjust our teaching styles to meet the world they are growing up in as well as the world they will become citizens of.

Outside of school, I have a wonderful daughter who lights up my day, makes me laugh, and keeps me smiling. We love traveling, being outdoors, and spending as much time as possible exploring new areas.
