Hi! Thanks for visiting. This is my 23rd year teaching 2nd grade. Previously, I taught 4th grade for two years and spent 1 year as a 2nd & 3rd grade reading tutor. I also taught remedial 3rd grade summer school for 4 years. It's true - time flies when you're having fun!

My district, my team and myself are working very hard to implement all the new Common Core Standards in the classroom. I am improving lessons and creating new ones for this purpose and I plan to share them here. I am focusing on providing learning intentions so the students understand why they are doing activities, as well as provide as much differentiation as possible in my lessons.

I earned National Board Certification as a K-3 Generalist in 2004. I sought and received renewal of my certification in 2013. I had a "shining teacher moment" last year. We were working on a math activity, when I overheard a student tell his neighbor, "This is the best class ever!" Before I could get my hand up to pat myself on the back, he clarified to the neighbor that my class was the best because we have individual student desks and his last class had group tables! I put my hand back at my side...:)

I attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio receiving Bachelor's Degrees in both Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. I obtained a Master's Degree from Marygrove College with a group of fellow teachers from my school. It was really fun to do it with colleagues.

I traveled with People to People on an Education Delegation to China - Beijing, Xian and Guilin in 2003. We met with teachers there and also got in a lot of great sightseeing! I went again with a Humanitarian Delegation to Russia - Moscow, Novgorod and St. Petersburg in 2008. In 2014 I spent some time in the UK and fell in love with Scotland - hope to go back soon! I am also an avid needlepointer.
