TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have student teaching experience in a urban kindergarten setting. I taught first grade for four years and moved to second grade where I have remained for four years. I have a particular interest in the area of reading instruction and gifted education. I have experience teaching students of low socio-economic status, learning support, speech and language support, emotional support, regular education, and gifted education.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I hold very high expectations of my students and strive for new ways to make learning interesting and fun. I live for days when we get caught up in the moment and throw the lesson plan out the door to enjoy those refreshing teachable moments as they occur, not when they are planned.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

This year a very special student nominated me for teacher of the month at a local orchard who surprised me at school in front of my class and principal. It was an amazing moment to share with my students and one I will never forget! I've been recognized by a colleague and our school board as an outstanding educator in 2012.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I am highly dedicated to teaching and have always been fascinated with my teachers. As an only child, I spent many hours mimicking my teachers actions teaching my stuffed animal students. I graduated from Shippensburg University in Elementary Education with a reading minor in 2007. That same year I received my first teaching position at my alma mater. I graduated from Millersville University in 2012 with my Masters in Language and Literacy and a reading specialist certification.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

We a sweet little girl who is 7 months old and have two cats, Winston and Taylor. Banner From: © Graphics Created by The 3AM Teacher http://the3amteacher.blogspot.com/
