I am an enthusiastic ESOL endorsed, elementary teacher with about a decade of teaching experience! I live on the beautiful Oregon coast and have taught 4th grade and 5th grade. I also have experiences working in 1st and 2nd grade classrooms.
I implement GLAD and ELL teaching strategies into my instruction, as well as whole brain teaching and AVID. I believe it is essential for students to know "why" they are learning a skill just as much as we need to teach them "how" to do the skill. This fosters an atmosphere of curiosity and ownership of their education. It is essential that we teach with a growth mindset, encouraging our students to see their education as something they are continuing to improve upon. They may not know something yet, but they will make progress if they continue to be work hard. It is our job to help them be focused and engaged.
Nominated for teacher of the year in 2022. Received the award for "best character" by my school staff.
I attended Western Oregon University for their education program and graduated Magna Cum Laude with my ESOL endorsement.
I grew up on the Oregon coast and absolutely love everything nature and art. In 2014, I moved across the state and taught in a culturally diverse and high poverty community, with the most amazing kids! However, I missed my family and the ocean a little too much, so I moved back to teach on the coast. I love to learn and love sharing my gift of art with others. I have several hobbies which include fine arts, rock collecting and polishing, exploring nature, and working on my children's book which I hope to finish and publish some day soon!
