TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught for 8 years within the DC Public School System. I have spent that time at two very different schools and teaching many grades. I have learned so much from both experiences and would love to share those ideas and that knowledge with other teachers! I started in 3rd, looped to 4th. Went to 1st to learn how to teach beginning reading. That is my true love! I spent one year in 2nd having looped with a group the returned to my beloved 1st grade.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love to try to reach all leaning styles. I take each student as a new challenge and push myself to reach them all in a way that works for them. I love to integrate the arts into all subjects. I teach about musicians, artists, historical figures, writers and much more in order to make the standards come alive.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Highly Effective Teacher Rating 6 years DCPS Teacher of the Year Award 2012-2013 school year

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I went to an international school through middle school, where I became fluent in Spanish and dabbled in Japanese. I learned so much about diversity and it's great values through that experience. I spent high school at a DC prep school. I received my bachelors in Spanish and Elementary Education from Vanderbilt University in 2006. I began my studies to become a reading specialist in 2011 at George Mason University but had to put that on hold after the first year when my daughter was born.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I absolutely love teaching and really enjoy sharing ideas with other teachers. If I have done something my students enjoyed, I want all students to get the chance to enjoy it too! I just recently left teaching in order to take care of my growing family, but would love to share ideas I continue to have and those that I greatly enjoyed while in the classroom! The standards are just a blank canvas and we are here to make them come alive!
