- Effectively initiated the school’s Mandarin Chinese program and developed the program curriculum for the school district for levels 1-4
- Taught Mandarin Chinese levels 1-4 at the high school level, including individual special needs coursework, and implemented classroom management/discipline procedures for approximately 200 students per year
- Demonstrated ability to teach, motivate, and direct approximately 200 diverse students while maintaining high interest and achievement
- Effectively interacted with students, parents, faculty and administrators
- Effectively utilized a language lab to supplement regular classroom instruction
- Presented on the ACC-CLASS K-12 Summer Program entitled “A rare opportunity: Teachers of Chinese prepare in China” at the GWATFL conference in September, 2008
- Presented on Master’s Degree Capstone project entitled “Getting High School Student’s Buy-in: Target Language Only Mandarin Chinese Classes” at the MLTA conference in October, 2013
- Mentor teacher for University of Maryland Master’s of Teaching Chinese interns since 2010
- Organized and led a 2010 China trip through EF Tours with 29 students traveling to Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai and Hong Kong
- Organized and led a 2012 AP China trip through EF Tours with 18 students in which students took language classes and stayed with host families
- Initiated and advised the National Chinese Honor Society, the Asia Culture Exchange club and the Chinese Board Game club
- Acted as translator for Prince George’s County Public Schools Superintendant Dr. William Hite, Jr. for the signing of an MOU between Prince George’s County Public Schools and their sister school, Hefei No. 1 High School of China in April, 2011
- Created county-wide End of Year Assessment for Introduction to Chinese, 2013
- Created county-wide End of Year Assessment, Midterm and Pre-assessment test for Chinese level 1, 2013
Students need structure, consistency and a sense of progress academically to feel they are able to master this difficult language. I feel a strong desire to expand and develop my Mandarin Chinese language ability, East Asian cultural knowledge and global affairs interest, as well as employ my existing expertise in planning, organization and leadership because doing this is integral to impacting students.

I have a B.A. in East Asian Studies from Dickinson College, an Advanced Professional Teaching Certificate to teach Mandarin Chinese in the state of Maryland and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University.
Being an educator for me has been a creative and rewarding way to give back to the community by revealing the rich cultures beyond our border to our nation’s future generations as a service to my country.
