I use Exit Cards with Book Discussion Groups (BDG), everytime they sit together to get an "inside look" into how the discussion went. When I can't sit with the group and a parent volunteer does, this keeps them accountable to the set expectations.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've taught overseas for 12+ years with my husband and my two little boys (they just joined 6 years ago!). I have taught Grade 5 homeroom and most recently Grade 5 humanities. I love this age, as they grow in independence, critical thinking and understanding of the world.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe that students cannot learn anything that I put my time into if they don't feel comfortable, safe and heard. I include a community meeting every morning so we get to know each other and start the day in a safe zone. I set high expectations for my students and believe in them achieving realistic goals. I push for critical thinking. Creative ideas. Building and growing ideas. I'm not teaching the curriculum- I'm teaching confidence, hard work and acceptance.
