Carl's Corner

I worked for 35 years as a teacher and a Language Arts Specialist in an elementary school and as a curriculum designer and instructor at the University of California, San Diego, in the Reading Specialist Certification program. Trained in Reading Recovery. Webmaster and designer of four free websites for teachers and parents, including Carl's Corner, a website that focuses on materials for reading and writing instruction. Over 60 CDs are available on the site, with all proceeds going to a college scholarship fund. Guest speaker at educational conferences and universities.

Teachers and parents need to be aware of the all-important instructional tools and "promising practices." That is why I continue to be a teacher/researcher. I believe in children taking ownership of their learning and in developing the skills and strategies to become independent readers and writers. I am passionate about children experiencing the joy of knowing how to read and write.

I am fortunate to be able to collaborate with Ron Leishman, another TPT seller who is also the creator or www.Toonaday.com and www.Toonclipart.com. His artwork is incredible! Together we have developed AlphaToons and endless materials for working with word families. I have been blessed with the ability to write poetry and song lyrics for thematic instruction as well as for language arts skills and a wide range of subjects. I was recently out of touch for teachers who had requests. I managed to break my right tibia and my left femur, fractured several ribs, my pelvis and other assorted parts that kept me from being creative! Several of my doctors decided that God's not finished with me yet and so I'm back at it, working on requests. They say it will take a year for everything to heal, but I'm hanging in there and getting lots done!
