TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Upon graduating from college, I moved to North Carolina where I taught 3rd grade for 5 years at a year round school, and yes, I LOVED the year round calendar! However, I began to miss home, so I moved back to WV where I was fortunate enough to be a substitute for 2 years before getting hired as a middle school media/TIS teacher for a year. From there, I moved on to teach 4th grade at a small rural school where I have been teaching for the past 3 years.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love to get the kids up and moving, working with one another, and giving them real world, meaningful assignments. Kids are always wanting to know why they have to learn ______. I don't ever want that to be questioned. I think the more real life situations our students are presented with in school, the better they will handle them as adults. And that might mean teaching them to estimate what is in their grocery cart to be sure they have enough money to pay for their groceries, or subtracting large(r) numbers in a checking account. I teach my students that we learn for a purpose, and we never stop.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Not much to be reported here folks. When I was in high school, I had a poem published and came in second in a children's book writing contest.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

West Liberty State College - graduated in December 2000.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I keep busy with school work, but love spending time with my husband, family, and newest edition, Charlie (my dog). When I do have spare time, I love to read, read, read. I am always scouring the internet for new and interesting crafts and handmade card templates/ideas.
