I have worked as a tutor for eight years. Within that eight years, I have also gained TESOL certification and taught in North America and Europe. I have taught in private and public schools. My experience ranges from teaching Korean students learning English to teaching Canadian students preparing for the SAT exam. Currently, I have been teaching English at the middle and high school level for six years.
My teaching style is best described as research-based. Specifically, my teaching is grounded in the research of John Hattie and Robert Marzano, who both agree on a few teaching practices: - spaced and plentiful practice - clear lesson objectives - feedback (formative, peer, and self-assessment) - direct instruction of new material - chunking of new materials- small steps - meaningful, accountable cooperative learning - visual representations of new learning - summarization of new learning - games and engaging media
The best "awards" I get are when my students come back and tell me I prepared them very well for high school :-)
